2~ Best Love...what they meant/mean to you...
My Best Love....hands down...are my Grandparents.
Why? Because they are GRAND!
|Grandma--in blue; Grandpa--in black
G is for their giving natures. I know many instances where they would do without to make sure I had what I needed. Some of you may feel they were only doing what good parents were supposed to, but in this day and age, you run across many who don't put their kids first, not to the extent my grandparents did.
R is for resilience. There were good times, for sure. But Grandma and Grandpa grew up in times that were relatively tough..Grandpa, in 1919, and Grandma, in 1921. Great depression. Women's rights. Civil rights. So many major events happened in their lifetimes. For those who think they have it rough now, try living back in those days when wages weren't the way they were now. They made due with seven children.
A is for aptitude. My grandparents had a great aptitude for many things. For my grandmother, it was keeping the home clean, cooking, and baking. For my grandfather, it was his ability to work well with his hands--gardening and building as well as his sharp listening and observing skills, dating back to his time in the military.
N is for nice. Both of them were nice people. They did teach me that some people tended to mistake niceness for weakness, so one has to proceed with caution. The key, they told me, was not to let all those bad experiences take away from the core of who I am. Therefore, to not just be mean to people. You never know who you may have to depend on, especially when times are rough. The very person one snubs might be the very one you need in a pinch.
D is for determined. Both of them were strong and had a "never give up" attitude. Even when times were tough, they had faith and carried on, often with little to no help.
Not enough words of love can express what they both mean to me. They took on the responsibility of raising me when my biological father was a no-show and my mom moved to California. They have shown me all the elements of what true unconditional support and love was all about, and I thank them every day for that.
My grandfather passed away last month; there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. I am sure my grandma feels the same way.
I thank them both; I am blessed to have the Best.
|Love you, Grandma!
